The Adversity Paradox

You always have a choice. No matter how terrible the set back or how great the outcome. “You can make the choice to lie back and let adversity consume you, or you can face the situation head on and work to make adversity your friend.”

How? 

Introspection - 
You must first take a look at yourself. Look at your motives and actions.  What is your commitment to your dreams and your goals? Look at your strengths and weaknesses.  You must have a true understanding of who you are and what you want. 

Values-
Honesty and integrity are the foundation for any type of success. 

Work Character-
Sorry but at the end of the day, there just isn’t a substitute for hard work.

Purpose and Passion-
Be passionate about what you do. Enjoy it. Have a strong purpose. Purpose is what keeps you going in the face of any challenge.

Thirst for Knowledge-
Continue to learn and grow, never stop.


Adversity is to teach you something.  However, the power to act, to positively change your own circumstances, lies within you.  So don’t just set your goals and meet them. Surpass your goals.  Remember, it’s a choice and only you can make it.

What are your goals

“Any thought, plan, or goal that you can clearly define in your conscious mind will be brought into reality by your subconscious mind.” Brian Tracy

When setting goals, ask yourself, "is this something you really want?” Be specific and clear with your goals. Remember setting SMART goals is essential in attaining your desired outcome. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Revisable, and Timely goals.

In order to determine if a goal is truly important to you, Brian Tracy says you should write out ten goals on a sheet of paper that you want to accomplish in the near future. Once you have written them out, determine which ones would have the greatest positive impact on your life if accomplished immediately. This is the goal that you should focus on. First figure out where you are right now. Then what you need to do to get where you want to be. Finally, what steps are required to accomplish your goals. 

Part of defining a goal is defining your weakest areas. Specifically what you need to improve. Then you can determine what steps you are going to take to improve each one. Always remember the 80/20 rule. This rule states “80 percent of your constraints will be within yourself, 20 percent outside of yourself, in other people and situations. It is you personally who is usually the major roadblock setting the speed at which you achieve a goal,” explains Brian Tracy. Therefore, we must recognize first, that in order to achieve any goal we truly want to set, we must first get out of our own way.  We have to get outside of our comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to change. Remember to always visualize completing each step necessary to attain your goals. So go after it, go hit your goals.

Focus on Your Intentions


What does it mean to focus on your intentions? What are intentions?

Ask yourself what you want? 
What matters to you? Then focus on those things. Those become your intentions. If you focus on the wrong things, you will get outcomes you do not want. However, if you focus on the things that truly matter to you, then you will get what you truly want.

It is not easy to maintain focus in a society where our attention can so easily be diverted. However, if we remember why something is so important to us, then nothing that comes to us in the form of a road block will be more important or will allow us to lose focus. We must remember to focus on our intentions, only then will we succeed.

The Windy City Here We Come




When we work hard to achieve our goals, we are rewarded by management. Top team player, Kiara Hamilton, was rewarded with a trip to manager Dominic McCray's office in Chicago.  

Kiara shares her thoughts with us: 

"One thing in this business that I love is being competitive. I won the Chicago trip by being competitive. Going to Chicago with Terry was amazing and I am grateful for it. Getting to see the city and everything that Chicago has to offer was truly beautiful. We also went to visit another office who does exactly what we do here in Atlanta, that was cool. It gave me the opportunity to connect with another manager. He has given me valuable advice on how to get to the next level. One thing I learned is 'you do the things others won't to live the life others can't!'.

What Makes a Top Team Player


True team players are willing to do the things that others wont do. They understand that resiliency is forged through adversity. Therefore they take on challenges, facing them head on, never backing down. A top team player doesn’t look for the easy way. Instead they look for the way that will allow them to overcome adversity and lead them to the greatest success longterm. They make things happen, no matter what. They take the lead. They do not follow or wait for instruction but rather take determined actions and steps towards success.

Getting it Done

David Allen explains that the mind goes through five steps to complete any task. These steps are:
  1. 1)  Defining purpose and principles (ask WHY).
  2. 2)  Outcome visioning
  3. 3)  Brainstorming
  4. 4)  Organizing
  5. 5)  Identifying the next action (focus on the outcome)
In order to truly accomplish any goal, we must first identify what the goal is. Then, why we want to achieve it. Envision the outcome.  Think about the steps necessary to get from start to finish. Brainstorm and use your resources. Most goals are not accomplished alone. You have a team of people by your side that are willing to help you. You must ask them for their advice and then execute. Decide the next steps.  Refocus if necessary and try again if you weren’t successful. Remember, never give up. Getting it done is not just about deciding to do something. Instead it's deciding what you want and how you are going to get there. Have a definite purpose and never give up. Persistence, passion, and perseverance are key to making it happen.

The team doesn’t just work hard, we also love to have fun. So as a team we took a trip to Carowinds in North Carolina. A full afternoon of laughter, roller coasters, and time with good people. That’s what this business is all about. Building those relationships that last, while working towards our goals.

The men in our office are not only competitive in the field but on the field as well. They have taken their game to football field. The Blue Assassinz enjoyed their first season together this past year. We look forward to the season to come.

So what else has our management team been up to? The week of the last conference, in Orland Florida, the team took a trip to Disney. It just reminds us that when you work hard, you can be rewarded and play hard too. We are all big kids at heart. The team had a blast right before we spent the weekend learning great information from our top business leaders.

Finding your Mojo


In order to find your Mojo, you must first understand what mojo is. “Mojo is about the moment—and how we can create it in our lives, maintain it, and recapture it when we need it.”

Four factors in finding our mojo:
  1. 1)  Who do you think you are (identity)
  2. 2)  Who do other people think you are (reputation)
  3. 3)  What have you done lately (achievement)
  4. 4)  What can you change (acceptance)
It doesn’t really matter who you think you are. In life, people will always remember how you make them feel more than what you say. So you must first identify what it is that other people feel and think about you. Only then can you take the necessary steps to change and become the person you think you are. If you feel like a manager, ask yourself, do your peers see you as a manager? If not, then what do you need to change to become a manager to them. What have you done lately? What have you accomplished? Once your actions and reputation are that of a manager, then your peers will see you as the manager you see yourself as.

So go find your mojo. Take the steps necessary to create the reality you want. Remember, you are in control of your future.

Take the Shot

We think of athletes as these super talented individuals who were born with these amazing gifts. But when we look closer at people like Tiger Woods, we find that he was not just born in a home with an expert golfer. His father Earl taught him to play golf before he was two years old. He wasn’t 20 and picking up a golf club for the first time, rather he practiced regularly. This deliberate practice attributed to his success. 

So what is Deliberate Practice?

Deliberate practice requires us to take advantage of every opportunity we have to practice the skills we have and to improve them daily.


How?

First is directly practicing to improve our skills. This can be done through role playing opportunities. Second, would be taking advantage of opportunities in our field.


Realize that when we are practicing with others, we are still in our comfort zones. Actually taking advantage of the opportunities presented to us in reality gets us out of our comfort zone. So are we going to shy away and do the easy thing?  Or are we going to take the harder route, dig our feet in and give it our all each and every time? Only you can decide that. But remember the athletes. They don’t just have to practice. They actually take the shots that are important when they are in their field. They too have something to lose. Yet they choose to execute. They give it their all. We can learn something from this. When we are in our field, we know we have something to lose but only if we don’t take the shot. So give it your all, no matter what your field or goal is. Give it your all no matter what the outcome. Always remember if you don’t take the shot, you have already lost. Don’t just practice hard. Instead, get out of your comfort zone and perform at the level you are trying to reach. Go out there today, remember, take advantage of every opportunity...and take the shot.

Atlanta Leaders Conference


Hundreds of leaders from the southeast gathered to hear successful entrepreneurs, consultants, and top leaders share their knowledge to improve our careers. We covered topics such as how to develop the leadership qualities in others, growing your company, and where to spend your time as well as with who. The leaders conference was successful and brought the bigger picture together for many of the individuals who attended.

Motivation broken down is actually comprised of two words (motiv/ation): 
1) motive and 
2) action:

“People who are motivated have a motive; they have a reason, a purpose, or a cause. And then they take action on that reason, purpose, or cause.” -Zig Ziglar

So ask yourself, what motivates you? 

What are your true motives? 

Finally, what actions are you going to take?


Success can only be achieved by your hard work and persistence. Remember your intentions and take direct, specific steps towards your goals. Only then, can you truly achieve the success you desire.

Kiara began her journey in Atlanta. She was part of the original expansion crew to Greenville, South Carolina. She is excited to return home and take over the city. Melissa won the Puerto Rico trip for her hard work and dedication to her craft. She along with team member Keela are looking forward to taking advantage of Atlanta’s vast opportunities. Tehillah and Ariah are ready to show Atlanta just what the previous Greenville crew are capable of. They have definitely stepped up and set the pace for our new office location.

Kiara Hamilton’s goals for the company are to continue helping others grow in the right direction. Also, be an inspiration to others not only in business but in life. I was always told ¨No matter where you come from, you have total control of your future!¨ I want others to see that as long as you work hard, you will succeed. I'm ready to take over Atlanta!

I was a part of the original moving crew from Atlanta to Greenville, South Carolina. The experience was amazing! Being with a team like this made it more comfortable knowing that we all had each other's best interest at heart. Coming back down to Atlanta was awesome. From moving things into the new place to the first day of business in a new city was mind racing! I'm excited to take over Atlanta! 

Melissa Burrell was part of the move from Greenville, SC to Atlanta, GA to a city with bigger opportunities to achieve the endeavors that the business has to offer. She is ready for the great opportunities that are to come here in Atlanta. Melissa’s goals are to continue to learn all the knowledge she can get to be successful. She also wants to help others grow. As well as transfer that knowledge she has gained to others so they can get the same opportunity she has. Finally, to continue to build her team and get promoted to assistant manager, followed by a quick promotion to owner. Then, will begin the road to consultant!


Tehillah Edmondson says moving here was an exciting change and demonstration of our commitment to this path we have chosen.  It called us out on being all or nothing in this business, as well as brought us closer together  as an office family.  This move is an example of the sacrifices we as professionals are willing to make in order to forge a future we can be proud and ecstatic about.

TL Direct Acquisitions is moving to Atlanta. Terry Lynch, President, started his career in Atlanta and is happy to be home after a strong first two years in business in Greenville, South Carolina. The expansion will not only bring greater opportunities and experiences, but a great team of individuals who are going to take the city by storm.
